What would you do?
What choice would you make?
How far would you go to erase the past?
SMITTY FOWLER, (the Tri State Serial Killer) terrorized the rural areas of NY, PA and NJ for years. During Fowler’s reign, six teenage girls were killed, each one indoctrinated into his macabre collection of dead wives. Sami Saxton made international news for single-handedly killing Smitty Fowler. Jeanette, his wife, wasn’t so lucky. Recently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and left alone to raise her daughter, Amanda, her options seemed limited. This is her story…
She had written the suicide note before, many times… but had always thrown it away. Sometimes she would take a lit match to the paper and watch as it slowly burned in the kitchen sink, the edges folding in on themselves, the corners crumpling inward – the colors changing from lava red, to black, then gray – before collapsing into its papery defeat.
Today would be different…
Today would be a different story…

A Perfect Wife A Sami Saxton Series Book 4 eBook Douglas Wickard Reviews
A Perfect Wife - the 4th novel in the Sami Saxton series by writer, Douglas Wickard. Welcome back, Sami! I've missed you!
Since this collection is a series, I really enjoyed this fourth book being character-driven. Mr. Wickard allows his characters to be who they are and to tell their own story. They are believable. They have real lives with real issues that lead to real choices that need to be made.
For me, the genius of Mr. Wickard's writing lies not only in his consistency of realistic character development, but also in the vivid imagery he creates. As reader, I am in the story and immersed in the details that activate the senses.
I like how Mr. Wickard gives the reader nuggets of relevant past happenings from prior books in the series. Just a sentence or a thought here and there to trigger the memory, but keeps us in the present.
In A Perfect Wife, many characters have choices to make...choices due to past and present conflicts, relationships, self-discovery, personal growth, and just from the reality of change, itself.
Sami, who suffered and struggled with her own demons, is now healthy and strong enough to willingly suspend judgment and follows her heart in helping Jeanette. No judgment from this reader, either. I really liked Jeanette.
And, Robert. His demeanor and choices were not predictable. Renee? A delight!
Will Sami's choice to be with Hutch in a more committed relationship become a reality? I look forward to finding out. The book ending, Mr. Wickard, was - literally - heart gripping!
I am a devoted Sami Saxton - and dog Blue - fan. I highly recommend the Sami Saxton series. (I still think of Smitty (A Perfect Husband) whenever I see a blue truck.) And...the "hopeful trail of fairy dust" that follows Drew to Belize sprinkled over on this hopeful "bestie" of Sami and Drew! Their supportive and unconditional friendship is wonderful.
Much continued success, Mr. Wickard!
Jeanette Fowler is a widow raising her 13-month-old daughter, Amanda. Jeanette suffers daily from Multiple Sclerosis, depression, and the prejudiced hostility toward her from her community, friends and family. Why? Because little did she know the dark side of her loving husband. Smitty Fowler was tagged as the Tri State Serial Killer who killed six teenage girls in rural areas of NY, PA, and NJ. Sami Saxton had made world news for single-handedly killing Smitty Fowler. Jeanette is helpless, poor, and has no confidence in herself to move forward in her life. There are a few other characters in this well developed novel who also carry heavy burdens of infidelity, betrayal, devastation, and regret. You'll feel like a voyeur learning the thoughts and feelings which impact the lives of these characters. This novel is compelling and the author has unique talents to look into the hearts and minds of these characters to mesmerize his readers. This is a unique stunning story, one which will remain in your memory. You'll not want to set this story aside. It's a real page turner which I highly recommend.
While this one was a bit different than the others, it was still a wonderful book. To me it seemed to tie up some areas that I always wondered about. Mainly what happened to Jeanette Fowler after her serial killer husband was brought down....
Jeanette Fowler, who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis, is raising her young child alone. She has no one to help her and doesn't know what she is going to do. I had very conflicted feelings towards her. I could truly hate her yet feel so sorry for her and understand the things she did at the same time. He husband, from the 1st book, A Perfect Husband, was a serial killer, which she had no idea of. Her mom made her leave because of how the neighbors who had known her all her life blamed her for the terrible things her deceased husband Smitty did. You could not help but feel for her and in many ways hope she made it no matter what.
Hutch's wife up and leaves him and he doesn't know what to do. He of course goes to Sami, who he was having an affair with. I felt bad for him but understand why his wife left him. I don't understand why she went where she did though with their two young boys. Then there is Drew... Her life is about to take a drastic turn and maybe not for the better.. but then again maybe it is for the better. Who knows with her. I love her for always being there for Sami but am torn with how she handles her marriage as we read in Perfect.
Sami gets a strange phone call from Jeanette that will alter her life in a big way and she is as always by Drew's side while Drew deals with her marriage troubles. I wonder if Sami will ever find true happiness and peace in her life. She certainly deserves it with all she has been through.
I hope when the next one comes out, which I can hardly wait for by the way, that Sami finally finds some kind of normalcy in her life. Maybe a few thrills thrown in for good measure, but I want her to be happy and content too. If that is possible. lol You won't regret reading this or any of the Sami Saxton books.
Douglas Wickard has a way of writing that always pulls me in from the start and I can't stop until I have read the very last word. Then I want more.
I was given this book in exchange of an honest review. I honestly LOVED it as I did the 3 before it and am sure I will the next one. Keep up the wonderful work Mr Wickard. You have another hit here. I'm a forever Sami Saxton fan!!!
OMG! What a rid, and I can't believe you left us hanging with this ending. Can't wait for the next one!
Douglas can keep you turning the pages and then at the very end leave you wanting more. Can't wait for the next book to come out
